Rockville Real Estate
The historic center of Rockville lies just to the north of the intersection of Route 28 and Route 340. Rockville, the county seat of Montgomery County, had a population of 971,777 in 2010. The history of Rockville goes back to the Revolutionary War period at least, when it was known as Hungerford's Tavern which was the area's favorite stopping place. At one point in the late 1700s, before it got its present name, Rockville was called Williamsburg, consisting basically of a tavern, a courthouse, a jail and a few homes.
One of the oldest towns in the state, Rockville is today a sizable city which houses the county government, a research corridor, a list of corporate offices and scores of neighborhoods and communities. Like neighboring Silver Spring and Gaithersburg, the city covers quite a bit of ground and include lots of different neighborhoods with an eclectic mix of dwelling types and architectural styles.
