First Impressions
Careful attention to the appearance of the home as you approach and enter is
highly recommended, as first impressions are often lasting ones. A
little landscaping and cleanup in the front yard, perhaps some new carriage
lights at the entranceway, perhaps a repainted front door with shiny new
hardware. The foyer is also an important place in formulating a first
impression.
Light and Bright
Clean windows with minimal window treatments enhance the amount of light
entering the home. Make sure all the lights have working bulbs with
strong wattage. Clean chandeliers. Turn all lights on for
showings. It makes a real difference.
Clutter
Clutter is a curse to homeselling. It makes the home look smaller and
suggests a lack of storage space. Clutter should be eliminated if
possible, even .stored temporarily offsite if necessary.
Paint
Paint is the homeseller’s best friend. Rooms that look tired can be
transformed with a coat of paint. Peeling or worn exteriors can look
years younger with a fresh coat of paint. Neutral colors are the best.
Wallpaper
Even though you may have emotional attachments to your wallpaper, it may be
to your advantage to remove it and paint walls with a neutral color.
Carpet
If you have hardwood floors under your carpeting, you might want to consider
taking the carpet up, since the hardwood floor look is so popular in today’s
market. Why not show your assets to best advantage? Especially
if the carpet is soiled or worn.
Clean
A professional cleaning on the inside and a power washing on the outside may
bring faster better offers for your home.
