Located on the southwest corner of River Road and Wilson Lane, Bannockburn Heights is comprised of an eclectic mix of custom-built homes. One house sold in 2011 for $2,100,000. Approximately 88 homes are in the neighborhood. According to the public tax records, the earliest still standing was built in 1901. Major construction efforts began in 1937 and tapered of a bit after during and after WWII. The streets that make up the neighborhood consist of Wilson Lane, River Road, Braeburn Parkway, Elgin Lane, Orkney Parkway and Pyle Road. The public school cluster is Walt Whitman High School, Thomas W. Pyle Middle School and Bannockburn Elementary School. Access to downtown is easy: down Wilson Lane to MacArthur Boulevard or down River Road, perhaps over Goldsboro Road and then down Massachusetts Avenue. The public schools are very close and several private schools are convenient as well, including Landon and Holton-Arms.
There is also access to the C&O canal towpath for hiking and biking along the river which you can get to down Wilson Lane. Close-by River Road is a major bus route for access downtown or wherever.
