Sonoma is north of the border of Greentree Road in Bethesda, just west of Old Geogetown Road, south of the Oakmont neighborhood. Sonoma was surveyed in May of 1912 as being comprised of 35 acres including somewhere around 100 lots and was previously the site of the Bethesda Park Amusement Park. According to MapQuest Sonoma is 18 miles from the White House and the 26 min. drive. The schools are Walter Johnson High School North Bethesda and sometimes Tilden Middle School and Wyngate Elementary. Sonoma real estate is comprised mainly of capes, ramblers and small colonials mostly on 7,000 square foot or slightly larger lots. There are 119 single family homes in the neighborhood, the oldest of which was built in 1913 on Old Georgetown Road. Serious Sonoma home sales began in the 1920s and have continued in each decade except the 70's with older houses being level and new Sonoma homes for sale going up. Closeby is Ayrlawn Park and the National Institutes of Health.
