Edgemoor Real Estate
According to MapQuest Edgemoor is 8.36 miles from the White House and approximately a 23 min. drive. Edgemoor consists of approximately 421 homes, primarily west of Arlington Road, south of Wilson Lane, east of Bradley Blvd (roughly). Edgemoor is the site of the Edgemoor Club, incorporated in 1922.
Only a few years before, Edgegmoor used to be rough land and cornfields. In 1919 a Colonel Philips built one of the largest homes in the neighborhood. It was later owned by Senator Harry S. New of Indiana, President Harding's Postmaster. The splendid homes in Edgemoor were developed by the Edgemoor Land Company.
There are some beautiful and huge homes in Edgemoor and some of them on extremely large lots. There are also some more modest sized lots and homes in Edgemoor and, as the area has soared to popularity so amazingly over the past years, many have tried to build as much house as possible on the land, both to enjoy the space and also from a builder's standpoint, for return on investment. As with many of the desirable areas, mansionization is somewhat of an issue. Especially in a neighborhood known for its quiet charm, it can be a critical concern if the owner of a understated unimposing home has a structure which is stylistically inconsistent built overlooking the property from just next door. Many communities are fighting issues like this and Edgemoor has emerged with an excellent reputation as a beautiful neighborhood and a wonderful place to live - convenient to everything you can think of.
What a pleasure to be able to stroll from home down shady quiet streets, passing lovely homes and landscaped yards, a short, pleasant walk to any number of restaurants, enjoy the weekend evening activity at Bethesda Row and maybe take in a movie, and then maybe shop a little and an easy stroll home. Or, hop on a Metro to downtown.
There were 14 single family homes sold in Edgemoor in 2011 with an average sold price of $2,526,500. The highest sold price in Edgemoor was $10,000,000 and the lowest sold price was $910,000. The public schools serving Edgemoor are Bethesda Elementary and the homes are split between the Walt Whitman High School /Thomas Pyle Middle School cluster and the Bethesda-Chevy Chase/Westland Middle School cluster.
The Edgemoor Club offers swimming, tennis and has an informal clubhouse.
